If our recently released custom categorization features got your personal financial management taste buds salivating, then have we got a juicier main course for you! Here by popular demand, detailed investment tracking.
With today’s market volatility, it’s more important than ever to stay on top of your finances – both your day-to-day spending and your long-term investments. Here are some of the new features we’ve added to help you better understand your financial picture:
A Deeper Look at Your Investment and Retirement Accounts
You can now quickly see all of your investment accounts in one place. Simply add your investment accounts in the Accounts tab as you would with your banking and credit card accounts.
Want to compare all your holdings to relevant market indices like the S&P 500, Dow Jones, or NASDAQ? Click on the Investments tab, and then click on All Investments. Choose the index you want to compare to the chart above and you can quickly see if your investments are outperforming or underperforming.
Need to drill down further? Simply select the specific investment account you’re interested in to easily compare it, or individual stocks and funds, to the market indices.
See Your Asset Allocation in Full View
If you have multiple 401ks, IRAs, and brokerage accounts, we’ll make it easier for you to see your allocation breakdown in terms of mutual funds, stocks, bonds, money market, commodities and currencies.
Click on All Investments and then the Allocation tab to see a percentage graph of all your assets. You can also switch from seeing the graph in asset type or individual holdings by clicking on Asset Type or Symbol, right below the graph.
Performance Tracking Made Easier
We’ve made it easier to see which funds are performing well and which aren’t, from either your total portfolio or individual accounts. Click on All Investments or the investment account of your choice, and select Highest Value, Best Performers, Worst Performers, or Biggest Movers to see a list of your holdings in the selected categories.
You can also select an individual fund or stock from an account to see its market value and price changes, along with editing the cost basis of your holdings. From the Investment tab, simply select the account and the holding in question, and then click on the value under Price Paid to edit the cost basis.
Categorizing Your Investment Transactions and Highlighting Fees
Once you’ve added all your investment accounts, you can see detailed transactions from all of your portfolios at the Transaction page. Click on the Transaction tab, and select the type of transaction by clicking on Investment (or go to the individual investment account of your choice). You can now see your investment transactions being categorized as Buys, Sells, Dividends, Interest and Fees.
As with other banking accounts, you can receive automatic email or SMS alerts when a fee is charged or an interest rate changes in one of your investment accounts. Just click on Your Profile and select Alerts & Notification, and then choose the alerts and delivery methods of your choice.
Avoid High 401K Fees with the New IRA Rollover Advisor
Our new IRA Rollover Advisor can provide you with IRA Rollover account recommendations and further educational content to help you identify better retirement savings options. Click on the Investment tab, and then the Old 401k? button to get started.

yay!!! That’s looks awesome Mint!!
Thanks Keith and Amy. Have to say that Investments development has been a huge initiative for us. We’re very proud to be able to go public with this today. Sorry that the news in your portfolio is likely to be pretty grim — we’re seeing the same red in our own charts and graphs — but information is power and we’re here to give you some.
Is there going to be any way that you can add your 401 account for your job or a roth ira savings plan with CGM Focus fund
So far it looks great. The only problem: it is not handling stock options positions correctly, it is not getting the cost basis correct and does not see the difference between opening a buy position and opening a sell position, so my whole portfolio is out of whack.
Aside from that, it is by far the most useful tool for tracking investments. Great work
@Donny – Yes, Mint’s investment feature can track any type of investment account, including 401Ks and IRAs.
Awesome new features. I really like the graphs showing investment performance relative to the S&P.
If you can add bill tracking with balance forecasting and reminders, I will gladly kick MS Money to the curb.
This looks great. Thank you. Can someone point me to a resource to show how to properly interpret the comparison graphs for investments?
InvestmentYogi is a personal finance site for India – the mint.com for the Indian consumer. Check it out!
Nice addition. Any plans to allow user input of securities (ticker, amount)? I own a mutual fund that does not provide online access to account information. I’d like to track its performance along with my entire portfolio. Thanks.
Glad to see this implemented, when my friend referred to me to mint.com about 8 months ago, he told me it is going to be even better once they add the investment tab. it definately is better, I can’t wait to see what you guys have brewing next! Maybe tax services with 1 button? Hahaha.
I love what you are doing and the UI is beautiful!
Any chance of seeing more reporting options (i.e. income vs expense monthly, etc.)?
Also – it would be nice if Mint remembered some of the settings, e.g. if I look at trends and sort by $amount decending, it would be great if that sort were remembered if I move to another month.
I don’t see you answer this question yet. Basically, can you pull data for the funds that are not publicly traded?

this is great info on investing
Hi – how do you add individual investment holdings? IE – I own some individual stocks, not within a larger mutual fund – can I add these manually somehow?
How does anybody ever get the time to organise emails, I have got to the point where i just dump it all in an archive folder every couple of months.
