Personal finance software is something that we care about here at Mint. Learn more with great finance software tips in our blog article index.

We’ve just released a number of improvements to the Mint.com finance software service — including some new features which have been at the top of our users’ “wish list” for online financial management. We hope you’ll find that these additions make your mint.com experience even better, and that you’ll see them as an early holiday gift to all of our users. You’re all on our “Nice” list.

  1. More Personalized Ways to Save — Just in Time for the HolidaysWhether you’re anticipating a flurry of December spending, or congratulating yourself on saving some dough this year, you’re probably wondering how to find the best financial product for you.To make that shopping easier, we’ve just added information on interest rates and rewards on tens of thousands of financial products to our proprietary database. This increases Mint’s ability to match our credit card and bank account recommendations to your individual needs. Log in to Mint.com today and check out your personalized Ways to Save page for some new ideas.
  2. It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year — to Know Where Your Money Goes.Mint users can now divide a single ATM withdrawal across the categories in which the cash was spent (e.g. Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh? … or maybe: Gas, Restaurant, and Groceries?) Likewise, users making a large purchase from a department store like Target can now divide that transaction into Food (egg nog?) and Gifts. This should help give you an even more detailed view on where your money goes each month…and what you’re spending on presents this month. Click on the image below to see transaction splitting in action.Splitting transactions is as easy as eating pie!
  3. Helping you spot “Scrooge-Like” ATM fees.Mint.com will now automatically detect and categorize ATM fees from ATM transactions. For example, an ATM withdrawal of $103 will split $3 into the fee category and $100 into the cash category - giving you a sharper view on fees charged by your banks. Online financial management has never been this easy!

Danny Says:

The one feature that prevents me from using Mint (and always sends me back to Wesabe) is the auto-renaming of my transactions. They are almost always wrong. Please, please, please, just give me the option to turn it off! I would *love* to have the raw transaction information that I can then choose to rename and set rules for.

Please? It would bring me into the fold, so I could enjoy all these other neat features.

David Mackey Says:

Mmm…Now if only you could convince businesses like Target, Walmart, Marshalls, and ShopRite to automatically include the data on what we spent our money on specifically.

Dave Says:

I just used the Split feature today, and it was easy to use and very intuitive — great job implementing one of my top requests!

Ragnar Says:

Finally. A way to essentially manually enter transactions. Not exactly what I wanted, but close enough.

I’d love to see you guys add a couple things (unless I missed them). Have these hit the dart board yet?

1) User entered categories

A good for instance here is that I run into a lot of situations where the categories don’t fit my expenditure. I just paid a speeding ticket the other day and had nowhere to put it but auto services.

2) Budget Archiving

Sometimes I miss logging in before end of month. It sure would be handy to go back and look at my budget for previous months.

The split feature is fantastic! I’m currently living abroad and paying for everything in cash. Now I can finally categorize my large ATM withdrawals.

Still waiting on those brokerage accounts…

John Says:

I agree with Danny — please let us turn off the automatic labeling! It’s very frustrating to rename/re-label a transaction only to have it revert back to the erroneous one.

Also, it would be nice to let us manually upload accounts that aren’t supported by Mint, rather than just making us wait for support.

Until then, I’ll have to stick with Wesabe (which comes with frustrations of its own, but not as fatal).

Greg Says:

Great addition to the system. This is a BIG help!

Thanks,

DeLano Says:

I would love to see support for mobile devices. I would benefit greatly from being able to check account balances and review my budget (especially during the holiday season) via my cell phone. Last week Wesabe released its mobile version and it is basic to say the least.

Jay Tyler Says:

Please please please open a UK version!

Guy Leppard Says:

I’ll second that. We need you in the uk.

macg Says:

Sort out the eurozone lads. Brilliant product. Fortunately my Irish bank is already there (as a US bank) so Ive been able to work away.

Ollie Says:

Pleeeeeeeeeease bring a UK version!!!

Grant Kemp Says:

UK version Aaron! Will even help you here if you need local assistance.

matt Says:

PLEEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE MAKE A UK VERSION! We need something like this over here. I’ve been looking for many years for it. I used to use Mvelopes- but then they went bust in the UK! And there’s nothing else like this available over here.
